Welcome to my steampunk themed blog. I will try to cover all of my creations I have made to-date over the coming weeks as well as starting to document some of my current projects. To start off I shall post a picture of a piece that I made for my wife, it uses entirely used watched parts and some leather thong for the necklace.
The process: the total project time was about 2 hours, which included a thorough cleaning, grinding to ensure all pieces are flat and have no sharp edges, sanding with 200/300/500 and then 2000 grit sand paper before a final polishing of each piece (no pictures up to this stage). I then tested the position of everything and then epoxy glued everything in place and attached the leather once the glue was dried. – More procedure pictures after the break.
These are all the pieces I selected to use for this piece, I choose these so that they didn’t fill up too much space and make it look cluttered.
All pieces positioned and checking placement, making sure that I am 100% happy before glueing, this is the stage that I would make any changes to the pieces I chose to use. I was pretty happy with what I picked so on to the glueing.
Freshly glued, again do a check double check of all positioning and then leave it to dry.
I love your work, it’s amazing. I’ve very recently started trying my hand at jewellery making, and I’m dying to make myself some steampunk stuff, but I have no idea where to get what I need. I’ve seen some watch innards, but where to you buy your larger cogs?
Hi,
I get a lot of it from charity shops either as whole clocks to take apart or they have a load of gears and things they were going to throw away and they give them to me. Other places like ebay and carboots are good for finding things too. However I don’t have any large gears the largest size I have is about 12mm which is tiny, the smallest size I have is about 1mm.
